On March 15, 1978, at the age of 19, Ana left her home and family in Guayaquil, Ecuador to come to the United States to pursue a new life. Shortly after her arrival, she entered the University of Houston and during her attendance at the university, she worked three jobs to take care of personal and educational expenses. Two years later, she relocated to Virginia. While still working three jobs to support herself, she pursued and completed her education at Christopher Newport College. Very soon thereafter, she returned to Houston and secured a position as a receptionist with the Joske's department store in the Galleria area. Within a year, she received four promotions to the position of the executive secretary for the divisional managers and their buying teams while working as a coat check girl at Houston’s famous Great Caruso’s theater restaurant on Westheimer Road in the evenings. Later, she became a hostess for Paesano's restaurant on the Southwest Freeway near Hillcroft. It was there where she met her present husband Martin Abrahams, with whom she fell madly in love with “At First Sight”.

Pierce Furniture began operations in 1993 under the name Warehouse Furniture. Duane Pierce, the founder, spent his entire professional life in the furniture industry prior to opening the company's first retail store on Butternut Street in Abilene Texas. He saw a need in the Abilene market for a true discount furniture store. He used his many years of experience to put together a store that offered products that people needed at affordable prices. The original slogan that is still used today is "We'll Save You Money". The small company enjoyed remarkable success over the first few years selling out of a store with less than 5000 square feet of retail floor space. Duane and his son Joe built the business from this single store to multiple stores in the Abilene area and then began expanding into other West Texas communities. As the company grew the name was changed to Gallery Warehouse to reflect the store's larger and more diverse selection. As a part of the expansion over the years, Pierce Furniture purchased existing stores. Many times the original owners and staff would continue to work for Pierce furniture while adopting the Pierce furniture model of low prices on quality furniture with friendly hometown service.

Arhaus was founded in 1986 with a passion to provide unique, high quality, well-designed home furnishings. Our philosophy was to design our own products, search for the best manufacturer while controlling quality, and bring the furniture directly to our customers. Our product developers travel the globe working directly with skilled artisans to craft pieces that can only be found at Arhaus, ensuring that every Arhaus piece meets our high-quality standards.

Our employees are forward-thinking storytellers - eager creatives and thinkers united under the same common banner: our mission to make Arhaus your home.

We have made a commitment to the earth's resources by developing unique, yet functional pieces from recycled natural resources. We recycle copper into tabletops, harvest tree roots, and transform them into chairs. We find forgotten antiques and give them new life. And Arhaus remains committed to never using wood from our endangered rainforests.

Our designers search the world to bring you fresh influence, a unique color, an unexpected silhouette, a global flavor. It is no surprise that so many of our pieces are exclusive works of art.

Of course, furniture should do more than just sit there; it should do something that is practical, usable and wonderful for your life!

Ledger Furniture opened in 1950 in a small storefront on Main and Avenue D in Copperas Cove, Texas. Lovett Ledger, respectfully nicknamed “Sir”, brought his young family and a truck full of furniture to Copperas Cove from nearby Florence.
